Public bodies may use this online form to apply for permission to extend the time for responding to an access request ("time extension requests") under s. 10(2) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Time extension requests must be submitted at least 3 business days before the time limit for responding to the request (as set out in sections 7 and 10 of FIPPA) has expired. This form requires that all fields are completed. If, for any reason, you do not have information for a particular field you may enter “na” to indicate this.
You CANNOT use this online time extension request form if:
- You are filing for an extension under section 10(1)(d); OR
- This is your second/further request to the OIPC for the same access request
If you are filing a time extension on either of these grounds, you must return to the forms page and fill out a paper form.
Time extension decisions will be made based on the information supplied, therefore public bodies should ensure the information supplied on this form is complete and accurate. For assistance in completing your time extension request, consult Time Extension Guidelines for Public Bodies.
In the final step of this form, you can attach PDF and Word documents to supplement your time extension request. Form content and attachments are encrypted in transit and in storage.
Once you submit the form you will have the option to print a copy for your records.
You must complete each step and fill in all the relevant fields in order to submit your time extension request to the OIPC. If you require additional assistance, please call (250) 387-5629.
