Deputy Commissioner: Investigations, Intake, and Lobbyist Registry

This position plays a dual role as the Deputy Commissioner to the Information and Privacy Commissioner as well as the Deputy Registrar of Lobbyists to the Registrar of Lobbyists in leading the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) and the Office the Registrar of Lobbyists (ORL) to deliver on their statutory mandates. The Deputy ensures the Offices are seen as effective, independent and impartial oversight agencies that have the public’s trust and confidence.

To achieve these goals the Deputy exercises statutory powers delegated by the Commissioner/Registrar under section 43 of the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), section 49 of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and section 7 of the Lobbyists Registration Act (LRA).

Deputy Commissioner: Policy, Adjudication, and Audit 

As one of two Deputy Commissioners with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC), you will help lead the Office to deliver on its statutory mandates and ensure the Office is seen as an effective, independent and impartial oversight agency that has the public’s trust and confidence. As a member of the Office’s Senior Leadership Team, this position provides leadership, advice and expert counsel on the Office’s practice and policy issues, priorities, initiatives and strategic objectives.

This position is responsible for helping execute the Office’s strategic goals and ensuring effective management of the Office’s operations, as well as managing stakeholder relations, ensuring the Office is kept apprised of relevant matters, and effectively addressing current and emerging access and privacy issues.

Policy Analyst

Reporting to the Director of Policy, the Policy Analyst conducts research and analysis of current and emerging access and privacy issues, writes guidance documents, and reviews and comments on privacy impact assessments and draft legislation. The Policy Analyst participates on project teams, provides their considerable expertise and input regarding policy implications of programs in the public and private sector, advises on best practices, and recommends courses of action to protect access and privacy rights.

The Policy Analyst also undertakes Commissioner-initiated investigations of public bodies and organizations, and investigates complaints from the public concerning access and privacy disputes.
