OIPC Policies
Our services are in significant demand, so we have implemented policies to help us close more files faster and make the most effective use of our limited resources.
- We evaluate each request according to set criteria before deciding whether to open a complaint or review file;
- We monitor active investigations to make sure our involvement continues to meaningfully further the protection of privacy, makes public bodies more accountable, or is otherwise in the public interest; and
- We implemented benchmarks and timelines for our investigations to help us close more files faster.
Note: Updated submission guidelines
We have updated our policies and procedures for submissions to introduce limits to active file counts and the maximum number of pages, as well as guidance on the use of large language models (AI tools). Please see the updated criteria below and consult our revised guidance before submitting.
